Grump, grump, grump, grump, grump...

That's what I did for most of yesterday. I'm a woman, see, I can multitask. So I can clean and grump at the same time. The reason for this grumpiness? Well, the computer really was switched off, and I couldn't write. Not only switched off, but hidden to prevent temptation. So I had no access to any one-minute-distractions-from-the-hell-of-housework.

I made up for it today, with a mushy-brain-moment par excellance. I had just put on the cauliflower and I thought, while the water's coming to the boil, I'll just check my email. Well, there was a message from JJ to say that she'd given me a lovely award. Well, I had to go and look, didn't I? And then, of course, I realised that I hadn't visited JJ's blog yesterday either (because of the sodding cleaning), and so I had to catch up, didn't I?

Well, my hob brings water to the boil in about 45-seconds. It struggles a bit when there's no water to boil, so it just heats up everything else until you get a nice smell of burning cauliflower.

Stupid, stupid, stupid woman
(that's me, JJ, not you).

So I spent the next ten minutes trimming black bits off the cauliflower (you know what kids are like), nursing my poor saucepan back to room temp- erature (from somewhere near the melting point of steel), and blackening my chopping board.

And this was after spending the whole day cleaning, tidying, hoovering, washing/folding/putting away clothes. I should be feeling great; but does the house look any better for it?

NO!

Grump, grump, grump, grump, grump...

Oh I really feel for you Leigh! Check out my blog about my possessions cloning themselves. The more I tidy the worse it gets. I can't really blame the internet but maybe I should! ;o) Oh..wait..I CAN blame the internet...for the online SHOPPING that makes me buy more stuff!

Down with the internet! (But not literally, that would suck)

Oh poor you after all that work:-( And burnt veg stinks.
Never mind. The rest of the house is done (isn't it?) so you deserve a bit of a blog and a nice award:-)

Don't be tempted to get a smoke alarm. It only ever tells you after the saucepan's burnt.

We swapped comments here, Cally. I'd just been on your blog when you sent this! What does that tell us! Yes, internet shopping (particularly for books) should be rationed. Definitely!

Lane - Well, I only did the downstairs, actually, and after one day, er... yep, surfing's a much better way to spend my time (did you know there's a picture of you over on JWJ's site!)

Hi Jackie - oh, so true. And alarm to tell you you've already burned the pan. Yep, I don't need one of those!

I take the Quentin Crisp way of thinking on housework:

'After the first four years, the dirt doesn't get any worse.'

Actually, I have A Person coming to visit this morning. Lovely bf's boss. I will have to clean things. I've also been told to dress as if I'm just about to go out somewhere.

Gawd.

Welcome to my world....

Jen - I love this approach, and when I find myself single (through not having kept the house clean and tidy) I fully intend to adopt it. Hope the Visit went well!

Karen - Thank you, but I'm not sure I like it here. I prefer the one where you can lounge about drinking beer and eating chocolate and talking about writing!

Oh dear,i always burn things. But usually in the oven rather than on the hob. I too get a teeny bit distracted by people's blogs!

If only cooking weren't so boring... we wouldn't be always nipping off to do something in the middle of it!
