The Ten Stages of a Forgotten Cup of Tea

You decide to have a cup of tea, but later on you find...
1. You forgot to fill the kettle.
2. You filled the kettle, but forgot to switch it on.
3. You remembered to switch it on, but it was still unplugged from the last time.
4. You managed to boil the kettle (twice), but forgot to get the cup or tea bag out.
5. You reboiled the kettle (three times), remembered the cup, and a tea bag, but didn't get as far as actually adding any water.
6. You remembered to put the water in, but forgot to take the tea bag out.
7. You remembered to take the tea bag out, but forgot to put the milk in.
8. You remembered to put the milk in, but forgot to drink the tea.
9. You drank half a cup, but forgot the rest.
10. You find half a cup of cold tea in the microwave three days later...

I mostly flounder between nos 3 and 8. What about you?

I only ever fail at point six ... very rarely and not at any place before it or after it.

I hate to think what that says about me.

Is your mind on something else, by any chance?

May I recommend that you get someone else to make your tea for you, and to bring it to you.

I fail at no. 4 all the time and repeatedly boil the kettle. Not only wasteful but probably does something horrible to the water.
Shame on me:-(

I drink coffee and never have any of these issues. Maybe tea is just too much trouble. If all else fails pop to starbucks

I started to make a cup of coffee at ten this morning. I still haven't had one. In fact I haven't progressed beyond the kettle boiling stage.

I'm an 8 and 9 girl, especially if someone else has made it and forgotten to tell me.

I am at 4 as we 'speak', having decided to check my e-mails while the kettle boiled and then deciding to check the blogs and...
That was 25 mins ago so I'll have to boil it again now.

JJ - That you've learned to like cold, black tea?

Captain - White, no sugar. Thank you!

Lane - I think reboiling the kettle increases the mineral content of the water. Useful if you suffer anaemia, perhaps ;-)

Lily - Tea is never too much trouble!!

Helen - I fear that you might need more practice before you're eligible for tea-making classes ;-)

Claire - Arrrgh. Tea that someone else has made for you tastes sooo much nicer than tea you've made yourself. Do try, at all costs, to drink it - yes, even if you don't know it's there.

Bernadette - No.4 is an honourable point of failure, but frustrating. I hope you find your way past it soon ;-)

Definately No 6. I'm always doing that, and get so irritated with myself.

Oh I can't drink tea without sugar in it. It has got to be hot and sweet, just like me.

The answer my friend is to bypass the old kettle marlarkey and go straight to the fridge and open a tin/bottle of beer ;-) Amber nectar TFx

The word verification is OPTIN :)

I drink herb tea, which helps, because there are fewer stages (no milk) and at stage 9 I still finish it off because it tastes the same cold as hot. (NB the herb tea is not because I'm a new age nutter, it's because I'm allergic to caffeine.) (Apologies to any new age nutters reading this.)

I think Tom F has a good point, well made. Although I'd be heading for the wine with the corkscrew.

I feel very sorry for you as you are obviously not taking the art of making tea seriously enough. And leaving a cup half drunk is verging on blasphemy. Not that I'm addicted to tea you understand just thaat I know where my priorities lie!!!!!!!!!!!!

Debs - Don't fret love. Just take the bag out, stick the milk in, and put the whole lot in the microwave for sixty seconds. It'll taste foul, but at least you won't have wasted anything ;-)

Troy - Something about that comment makes me want to stick a finger down my throat. It might just be the mention of hot sweet tea, of course...

TF - Ah, you are such a fount of wisdom, my dear; but I don't know that turning up on the school run smelling of Harvey's Best will go down too well...

Swerdnic - Well, I dunno. Try letting a small child make it!

Queenie - I did the herbal tea thing when I was pregnant, but it always left me feeling more thirsty. Beer often does the same, but that's just fine!

Sheepish - [Stands to attention]. Sorry, Ma'm. Will pay better attention in future, Ma'm. Promise.

I'm with Queenie on this one - and it doesn't keep, does it?

Dotterel - No. Especially not if you throw the cork into the fire... ;-)

the last half of 8, and all of 9. But I mostly drink tea when I make it.

(the last half of 8 only, because I Don't Do Dairy, so don't need to add milk)

i wish i had wine right now, though!

Step 0 : Fill the Britta water filter because it has run out. 30 minutes later remember to fill the kettle from it, and top up the filter jug again.

B - Oh, to get so far...!

Tim - Ha ha ha! I hadn't thought of that!

Oh that is just so true of me! I do all those things, especially the finding it in the microwave several days later!!

I'm good all the way to #9.

Except for #7 --- Milk in the tea. YUCK! It's LEMON in the tea, m'lady! Or a bit of honey (honey especially if you're a bear disguised as a human).

That gets me to #10. But it's not half a cup, it's the third cup. (I may be hopelessly gauche, making tea in a pot, bags or leaves. But some of us are so darned traditional that, well, we keep doing the same thing.) Lord, have mercy.

Then sit down and enjoy the view from the solarium. Once I look over the garden and our trees, and past the turret of the neighbour's house. I can see the river. Different view from yours; both nice, in their own ways.
