Book Meme

Nicked from Helen.

1. Hardcover or paperback, and why?
Hardback, as long as it's properly stitched (and not glued).

2. If I were to own a book shop I would call it…
'Dusty Bums' (from sitting on the floor reading - just felt I needed to explain that).

3. My favourite quote from a book (mention the title) is…
The first line of any Dick Francis novel.

4. The author (alive or deceased) I would love to have lunch with would be….
Robert Louis Stevenson.

5. If I was going to a deserted island and could only bring one book, except the SAS survival guide, it would be…
Chambers Dictionary (Sorry: NERD ALERT!).

6. I would love someone to invent a bookish gadget that…
Made books easier to read when you're lying on your side in bed.

7. The smell of an old book reminds me of…
My father's study.

8. If I could be the lead character in a book (mention the title), it would be…
Any romance where the hero is tall, dark and handsome (and rich).

9. The most overestimated book of all time is….
Anything by a celebrity ‘non’-writer (YES! Helen, I couldn't agree more!)

10. I hate it when a book…
Turns out (when I've finished it) to be the first in a series of five...

Where's my comment gone? I seem to be doing this a lot lately - thinking I've left a post and then realized that I thought about leaving it and didn't.

I am useless at memes - get all confused which isn't hard for a bear of little brain.

Yes yes yes to 6 and 9. BUT No to the last one, surely worse to realise you have just inadvertently read the LAST in a series of 5??

Karen - I'm just glad no one took it the wrong way!

Helen - Have you ever tried to analyse Dick Francis? To see how he does it? I've several times began one of his, thinking, right, I'm not going to read this, I'm going to study it. Next thing I know, I've finished!

Lane - Oh, the sign... I hadn't thought of that. Could have some fun there!

Debs - Not interested in short, blond, ugly and poor, then? No, me neither!

Fiona - You know something? I think there must be a Comment Monster out there. I posted a reply here some hours ago, but it hasn't shown up. Either that, or I posted it somewhere else. Gawd.

Milla - You're soo right there. Didn't think of that. yes, much worse to find you've just read the last one of five. I agree!

Interesting what you say about Dick Francis - I had the idea of analysing him, chose one of his novels, attempted to write a synopsis of each chapter, gave up after about chapter 7 and just read it. Don't agree with the last one, though. If you enjoy a book and you then find out there are four more to go....

I think it was Warren Zevon who reflected that buying a lot of books was a way of convincing yourself that you had time to read them all - as if the mere ownership was a defence against mortality. Sadly it didn't work for him...

Edward - It's just that I have so little time to read as it is... but I know what you mean!

Liz - Thank you!

Jen - You've just introduced me to Lovereading. Great site! Thanks for mentioning it!
