I've Never Been 40,123rd Before

I tried and tried and tried, but I couldn't beat Cally's 79wpm, or Lily's whopping 109wpm (I think she must have fifteen fingers, or something).

I tend to slouch in my chair, back straight, legs out-stretched, shoulders horribly curved. Sitting thus, I reached 61wpm. Right, I thought. I sat up, pushed my sleeves up, straightened my back (to the vertical rather than 45°) and poised myself like a concert pianist about to start Schubert's third. The result? 59.

I went back to slouching, and reached:

With no passes!
PS @ 2.15pm: Make that 76wpm!!! [slaps hand] Now get some writing done, or I'll send you to do the ironing.

This puts me in position 40,123, and made me wonder how fast no.1 can type. I found lots of videos of geeks typing really fast, but they were really boring. So, see this instead (33secs).

Ha! Sucked in! It's so addictive isn't it? I think it's probably quite good for us to practice - a bit like brain training between the brain and the fingers! That video is ASTONISHING!

Oh lordy, they must get out even less than I do!

I will not try the type test again.

What the..??? That's incredible!

I'm not doing the typing test any more. Started off well (76wpm) got worse each time. I'll be down to minus figures if I carry on...

I'm not even going to try this! I know I'll be crap and don't need yet another reason to feel inadequate!!

Cally - Utterly hooked! But am now typing more quickly for the benefit of practice! And the Japanese do have a penchant for odd TV, don't they?

JJ - Oh, go on...just once more!

Jen - Makes you wonder how boring her job must be, to get so fast at something like that...

Karen - Ah, that's okay. If that happens, just dictate your work, send the audio file to Cally/Lily, and (if you ask nicely) she might type it up with one hand, while writing her own stuff with the other!

Helen - I know what you're really trying to tell us is that you are the only one who has a life!

Came to visit your blog out of curiosity :-) I love the title. Evidently you're a kindred spirit...

What a fun test. I managed 92 on my fourth attempt (79 on first, then two 91s... decided 92 was enough and that I wouldn't make 100).

Hello Sue!!!
How did you manage to stop at only four goes, though? This test has been a terrible source of time-wasting all week!

I managed 78wpm on my fourth attempt, how depressing. I used to be so much faster. Such fun though, now I have to get on with what I should be doing.

Well, I did try again and eventually made 102. But I know when to quit when I'm ahead... too many other good places to procrastinate anyway!

Don't get depressed about 78wpm, Debs... that's better than my very best!

Sue - 102? Well, what can I say? Can you actually see your fingers moving, or are they just a blur?
